Johnsonville brats

Johnsonville is recalling more than 22,000 pounds of its cheddar bratwurst sausages after concerns that the product may be contaminated with hard plastic, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).

The recall, issued on Saturday, April 5, involves 19-ounce packages labeled “Johnsonville BRATS CHEDDAR Bratwurst” with the package code B9FOD and establishment number “Est. 1647” printed on the front label. The impacted products were produced on February 5, 2025 and were shipped to 10 states, including Georgia, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, Tennessee, Virginia, and Wisconsin.

FSIS launched the recall after receiving two consumer complaints about finding hard plastic inside the sausages. While no injuries have been reported, the USDA is urging anyone with the product to avoid eating it and to dispose of it immediately—even if it has been stored in the freezer.

This isn’t Johnsonville’s first recall tied to foreign materials. In 2024, the brand pulled over 35,000 pounds of turkey kielbasa over rubber contamination, and a 2012 recall involved pieces of rubber gloves found in its turkey cheddar sausage.
