Many fans believed that when Jordan Poole was traded from the Golden State Warriors to the Washington Wizards, it would provide him with an opportunity to establish himself as a standalone player, separate from the Warriors organization.
With no true franchise cornerstone player, Poole came in as the guy, and he was paid as the guy. He’s currently on a four-year $128 million contract. This has been the worst season so far of any association for him; it got worse when he was benched by the 9-46 Washington Wizards.
It’s been a really tough year for Poole in every aspect, as his averages have declined this season. Poole averages almost 16 points, four assists, and two rebounds as the lead guard for this team. He is shooting what some call a disappointing 40% from the field and 30% beyond the arc.
Poole was asked by the media how he felt about being benched before his game against Denver, and this is what he had to say.
“If there’s any common sense, with the situation, you should know how I feel. But I’m just going to come out, do what I can do to help the team, keep it moving.”
He continued, “I mean if this is a way to try to get me on ball. I guess that’s just what we have to do.”
However, some may argue it’s the opposite; they wanted to get the ball out of the hands of an inefficient shooter who didn’t make timely decisions.
Nevertheless, Poole finished the game last night with 18 points, one rebound, and one assist, and this all came while shooting 4-18 from the field. Wizards fans have been calling for Poole to be benched, and it was for good reason. Poole delivered one of the worst inbounds during their blowout loss to the Denver Nuggets last night.
