A New York judge sharply criticized Indiana Pacers star Paul George in a paternity ruling, according to the New York Post and other outlets.
Justice Matthew Cooper wrote in a 10 page decision that it is “all but certain” George is the father of a five month old girl at the center of the case, and that George has tried to avoid responsibility. The case was brought in May by Daniela, the child’s mother.
According to the ruling, George first tried to move the case to federal court, which did not work. He then filed a competing case in Florida, where he asked for full custody. The judge noted that the child was conceived in California and born in New York, which is why he found the case belongs in New York. He also questioned how George could argue he was the better caretaker when, according to the ruling, he had never seen the child or offered to provide for her needs.
The judge also pointed out that George missed a court appearance after breaking his leg, even though he was able to attend press conferences and travel. Daniela’s attorney, Raoul Felder, said the team was gratified by the ruling.
George and his legal team had not publicly responded to the decision at the time of this post.
