Soulja Boy’s financial problems are not easing, as he is required to fulfill his monetary legal obligations despite owing $1 million in taxes.

In 2023, Soulja Boy was found liable for assaulting his ex-girlfriend Kayla Myers in 2019 and was ordered to pay $472,000, including punitive damages, which he is trying to avoid.

Radar Online reported that Myers opposed his proposal and suggested he sell his assets.  The judge agreed that the rapper could generate enough money to pay off his debt.

“While it is not clear that defendant could just snap his fingers and book as many shows as he would like, neither is it clear that he cannot work at all,” the judge said.  “It might not be the work he wants (and he might not be headlining), but the court has no reason to believe that he cannot perform at all.”

The judge made further claims about the rapper’s financial struggles: “Someone as close to zero (financially) as Defendant claims to be might want to scale down the living arrangements.  $25,000 is a lot of monthly rent — even in Los Angeles.  There is no reason of which the court is aware that he could not relocate to a more ‘modest’ $10,000/month home.”

He added, “Defendant must be earning money from somewhere sufficient to pay for the rent and whatever other monthly expenses he has.  In other words, the Defendant is paying $300,000/year in rent alone.  It stands to reason that he must have some other living expenses.  And that money must come from somewhere.  It is not coming from loans, for the Defendant did not testify as to any other debts.

“So, although the court does not know from whence the money is coming, it is coming from somewhere.  It is not an impossible inference to conclude that his overall financial condition must be sufficient to allow him to live the lifestyle he does without going into debt.”

Soulja confessed to limited assets: three cars (two valued at $250,000 each and one at $100,000), around $18,000 worth of jewelry, and $50,000 worth of stock.  His attorney argued against liquidating them, stating their importance for his work as an entertainer and maintaining his image.

According to reports, Soulja Boy can’t pay the $476,000 owed to Myers even if he sells all his assets.  He requested the court to either waive the punitive damages or dismiss the case for a retrial.

In 2020, Soulja Boy was sued for assault, battery, and false imprisonment at his Malibu home but was never criminally charged.  However, police found weapons at his home, which led to a probation violation.  Soulja has denied all wrongdoing, blaming a third party for Myers’ injuries.

In the same month, the jury ruled in favor of Myers, and Soulja was directed to pay her $235,000.

The fact that Myers received an additional $236,000 in “punitive damages” soon after a jury had awarded her $235,000 is one of the reasons the rapper-turned-Twitch streamer requested a new trial.

In early June, Soulja’s attorneys filed a motion for a new trial, alleging “irregularities in the proceedings of the court, jury, or adverse party, or any order of the court or abuse of discretion,” which they argued prevented a fair trial.q
