Back Like He Never Left; Judge Mathis Announces New Court Show This Fall / NBC

Just days after news spread that the Judge Mathis show was coming to an end, the cherished daytime television star announced his return to TV.

Fans were devastated to learn that Judge Mathis was exiting the courtroom after a 24-season run with Warner Bros./Telepictures. However, the judge gave his supporters a glimmer of hope on Tuesday.

“I’m sure by now you know that Warner Brothers is getting out of the judge show business, canceling me and ‘People’s Court.’ But the good news is, the other studios aren’t getting out of the judge business,” he shared in an Instagram Reel. Mathis explained that he plans to continue his run with a Black-owned media company.

On Tuesday, it was revealed that Mathis was returning to the TV screen under a new partnership with Allen Media Group. Mathis Court will return this Fall in a one-hour slot on digital streaming, cable, and global network, with the judge overseeing new civil disputes that do not exceed $5,000 in damages. Byron Allen, the wildly successful production company’s founder, praised Mathis, calling him an “iconic television host,” according to Variety. The company looks forward to continuing his legacy, which has spanned over 20 years and won him several awards including a Daytime Emmy.

Allen Media Group currently produces eight daily one-hour court shows, including The Verdict With Judge Hatchett and Equal Justice With Judge Eboni K. Williams.
