People who have seen “Surviving R. Kelly” will be permitted to participate as jurors in R. Kelly’s upcoming trial in Chicago.

This past Monday, the first day for jury selection, proceeded for Kelly’s trial on charges of child pornography. An attorney for Kelly previously asked the judge if people who’d seen the six-part documentary series “Surviving R. Kelly” to be banned from being able to act as a juror.

But, U.S. District Judge Harry D. Leinenweber for the Northern District of Illinois declined the request, saying it wouldn’t be logical to block someone as a juror due to the fact that the series came out in 2019.

The documentary series gave an in-depth look at the various child sex crimes and abuse and sexual abuse crimes Kelly has been accused of over the users. The project included more than 50 interviews, along with testimonies from women who accuse Kelly of subjecting them to mental, physical and sexual abuse.

Kelly will appear for his Chicago trial on charges of child pornography and obstruction of justice.
