On Wednesday, Carmela Wallace, Mother of late rapper Juice WRLD, announced that she has put together a charitable organization called the Live Free 999 Fund. The Live Free 999 Fund aims to help young people who are struggling with mental health complications.
According to Variety, Live Free 999 is an organization that is in honor and dedication to Jarad Higgins, who went by the stage name Juice WRLD, which will try to help fight the stigmatization of people who suffer from addiction, anxiety, and depression in low-income communities. The organization will also support programs that have conversations on these topics and help young people find better ways to cope like how Higgins found music.
Higgins passed away in December 2019 at just 21-years-old after having a seizure at Midway Airport in Chicago, Illinois. It was later founded that his cause of death was due to an accidental overdose. Wallace recently made a statement regarding Juice WRLD’s life struggles and the need to help the youth who are struggling with similar issues.
“Young people around the world were truly touched by Jarad’s music because he spoke to issues and situations in his music that resonated with them so deeply,” said Wallace. “I made the decision upon his death that I was going to share his struggles with the world with the objective of helping others. It is my desire to help those who are hurting by providing access to education, prevention, and treatment for opioid and other forms of drug addiction. It is my hope that Live Free 999 will help people just as Jarad’s music has and will continue to touch lives for years to come.”
The Live Free 999 Fund, founded by Carmela Wallace, will also be supported by Grade A and Interscope Records.
