A jury in Texas has found the officer who fatally shot Pamela Turner in 2019 not guilty.

On May 13, 2019, Juan Delacruz showed up at The Brixton apartment complex at around 10:40 p.m. Delacruz was on patrol at the apartment, where he also lived, police said. While patrolling, he saw Turner — who he is familiar with — and called Turner and tried to arrest her. After a struggle took place, Delacruz used a Taser on Turner.

Police claim that when Delacruz tried to handcuff Turner, she allegedly grabbed the Taster and shocked him with it. Police claim that’s when Delacruz was prompted to use his gun; he then shot Turner several times. Police say the officer allegedly tried to resuscitate her, but she died at the scene.

On Tuesday, a jury gave Delacruz a not-guilty verdict after being charged with aggravated assault by a public servant.

“Pamela Turner’s killing was a tragedy for her family and community. Bringing excessive use of force charges against an officer is always difficult and uncomfortable,” Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg said Tuesday. “We respect the jury’s verdict.”
