The City of Chicago is going after Jussie Smollett to recover $130k in investigative costs directly related to Jussie’s claim that he was the victim of a racist, homophobic attack in January.
However, Jussie’s lawyer Mark Geragos, issued a stern letter to the city, stating Jussie “will not be intimated” as he called their claim that his client faked the “attack” “false and defamatory.” Geragos said the attack was real and alluded to the fact that the State’s Attorney dropped all 16 felony charges against Smollett.
Geragos also threatened to “grill Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson like cheeseburgers” in depositions if the City goes through with the lawsuit, according to TMZ. Both men have been very critical of State’s Attorney Kim Foxx for dropping the charges because they believe Jussie did indeed fake the attack.
Elsewhere in the letter, Jussie’s attorney said the City never went after individuals under these circumstances and he threatened to take the constitutional rights route if the case proceeds forward.
