The family of Celeste Rivas Hernandez is preparing for a heavy week in court as the investigation into the 14 year old’s death enters a critical new chapter.
Following the arrest of singer D4vd (born David Anthony Burke), who is currently being held without bail, Celeste’s relatives have made it clear they will be a constant presence throughout the legal process.
Represented by attorney Patrick Steinfeld, the family has officially invoked California’s Marsy’s Law. This legal move ensures they have a seat at the table, allowing them to remain informed and participate in all upcoming proceedings. The announcement comes just as Burke is expected to be arraigned for the 2025 discovery of Celeste’s remains inside a Tesla registered in his name.
While the public has been searching for answers since the grisly discovery last September, the family has remained largely silent to protect the integrity of the LAPD’s Robbery Homicide investigation. However, that silence is about to end. Steinfeld confirmed that the family plans to attend the upcoming court hearing and a subsequent press briefing held by the District Attorney.
“Out of respect for the District Attorney’s Office and the LAPD Robbery Homicide investigation into Celeste Rivas Hernandez’s death, the family has chosen not to make any public statement until after David Anthony Burke is arraigned and the District Attorney concludes their press conference. However, the family will make their first public statement outside the courthouse following the DA’s press conference,” Steinfeld stated.
For Celeste’s father, the arrest is the first step toward the closure they have been waiting for since their daughter was taken. In a brief but emotional message shared by his legal team, he simply expressed, “Thank God…justice for Celeste.”
With many case records still sealed, the upcoming arraignment and the family’s first public statement will likely provide the most significant insight yet into this tragic case.
