Justin Timberlake is going to court to stop the release of police body camera footage from his drunk driving arrest in the Hamptons.
The 45-year-old singer filed a complaint Monday in Suffolk County Supreme Court seeking to prevent Sag Harbor officials from releasing video recorded during his June 18, 2024, arrest. In the filing, Timberlake argues that making the footage public would be “an unwarranted invasion of personal privacy.”
His legal team said releasing the video could harm both his reputation and career.
“Public dissemination of this footage would cause severe and irreparable harm to [Timberlake’s] personal and professional reputation, subject [Timberlake] to public ridicule and harassment, and serve no legitimate public interest,” the court document said.
Police arrested the “SexyBack” singer in Sag Harbor after he allegedly ran a stop sign following a night out at the American Hotel. At the time, Timberlake was touring and had been socializing with friends at the popular Hamptons spot.
According to a criminal complaint, Timberlake told officers he had “one martini, and I followed my friends home.” Authorities also said he refused to take a sobriety test.
His arrest photo, which appeared to show him glassy-eyed, quickly went viral online.
The case wrapped up in September 2024 when Timberlake accepted a plea agreement that required community service and a $500 fine. Sag Harbor Village Justice Carl Irace rejected an earlier deal that would have allowed the singer to avoid further penalties with only a public apology.
“This proposal literally allows the accused to say a few words and walk out the door with no period of accountability,” the judge said.
Timberlake was ultimately ordered to complete 25 hours of community service and serve a 90-day license suspension.
After sentencing, he addressed the mistake outside the courthouse.
“This is a mistake that I made, but I’m hoping that whoever is watching and listening right now can learn from this mistake,” Timberlake said. “Even one drink — don’t get behind the wheel of the car.”
