In an exclusive interview with media personality Loren LoRosa, the Grammy winner addressed the viral headlines that have been circulating since their divorce was finalized this week. While many expected a long, drawn-out legal fight over her empire, Kandi says the actual settlement was a lot less dramatic than the blogs portrayed.
One of the biggest questions fans had was why the court documents weren’t sealed. Kandi admitted she was initially confused by the move, but she eventually understood Todd’s perspective.
“I couldn’t understand it for a minute. You know what I mean?” Kandi explained. “But I think the way he explained it to me was that he wanted it to be clear like he wasn’t trying to take me for everything or something.”
She went on to say that the “gold digger” narrative has been a constant cloud over their relationship.
“Because I think obviously that is the narrative always. People always want to, as far as even when our relationship, the whole time we’ve been together, it’s like that’s the narrative. You know what I mean?”
Kandi also made it clear that, despite early reports, Todd never actually tried to challenge their prenuptial agreement.
“And although there were things that were, I guess, said as possibilities when they were first filing things, that was never him fighting a prenup. That was never a conversation they had with me, or never a conversation that was had with my attorney. So I think overall at the end of the day, when it was all said and done, he just felt like he wanted it to be clear, like you know he didn’t try to take anything financially.”
As for the numbers, the settlement is pretty straightforward. Neither side is paying child or spousal support, and they will share joint legal and physical custody of their kids, Ace and Blaze. Kandi is keeping the majority of her high-end assets, including her 2022 Bentley SUV and Porsche Cayenne, while Todd walks away with several vehicles of his own, including a 2023 Range Rover and a Mercedes G-Wagon.
The most discussed part of the deal is the one-time lump sum payment Kandi is making to Todd for $426,388. This isn’t a “payout” in the traditional sense, but rather an equalization payment to keep the split 50/50 since Kandi is holding onto more of the real estate and property. Todd also agreed to pay Kandi $38,000 for the balance of their Atlanta Hawks season tickets, which she will be keeping. It seems both are ready to move forward and focus on co-parenting.
