Kandi Burruss is finally giving fans a clear look at why she decided to end her 11-year marriage. During an appearance on the Sunday episode of “Watch What Happens Live,” host Andy Cohen asked “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” alum about her decision to split from Tucker in November after 11 years of marriage. While the news went public in late 2025, Kandi revealed that the internal shift happened months earlier.

“It happened in July,” Burruss revealed. “In July was when I was like, ‘Oh, yeah. No, I can’t do this no more.’” Cohen tried to pin down if there was a specific moment or thing that happened, and Kandi didn’t dodge the question, though she kept the fine details close to the vest. “Yeah, it was a specific situation that happened,” the songwriter shared as she quipped: “I’m not talking about it on ‘Watch What Happens.’”
Even with the romantic side of the relationship ending, the two are staying focused on their children, Ace, 9, and Blaze, 6. Kandi admitted that “sometimes our conversations can get a little intense” while they navigate the legalities of the split, but they are prioritizing a civil environment.
“For the most part, even if we argue, we still try to be nice to each other,” she explained. “We’re co-parenting. Last night, we went to my son’s basketball game. So, we were there sitting right next to each other.”
The goal for both stars is to maintain a healthy family dynamic despite the change in their status.
“But I feel like once we’re done with this, I really feel that we will be able to be great co-parents,” she continued, “because our ultimate goal is to make sure that all of our kids are happy and that they don’t feel the brunt of our drama.”
Kandi also took the time to clear up rumors surrounding their prenup, which was a major storyline during their 2014 wedding special. Despite reports that Todd was fighting the agreement, Kandi says the situation has been blown out of proportion.
“He actually isn’t contesting. They threatened to contest it,” she said. “They said that if we do not come to terms, that they feel that they have a way to contest it. So, I think that is the misunderstanding of the internet. We’ve never actually had conversations about it being anything other than that. You know what I’m saying? So, he’s like, ‘Well, I don’t want people to feel that I’m…’ I’m like, ‘Well, people feel that way because your lawyer put it in there.’ ”
Even Mama Joyce, who was famously critical of Todd for years, is keeping a level head throughout the process. Kandi shared that “she has actually been pretty calm” and is doing her best to ignore the chatter.
“Because they don’t really know what’s happening between he and I,” she added. “We’re doing our best to get along and get through this moment, because we honestly don’t have a lot that we’re disagreeing about.”
This candid update follows Kandi’s original announcement on November 21, 2025, where she first confirmed the filing. In her initial statement, she wrote: “After deep thought and a lot of prayer, I’ve made the decision to move forward with a divorce. This is a difficult and emotional time, but my focus remains on protecting my peace, being the best mother I can be, and co-parenting with love and respect. I’m stepping into a new chapter pouring into my work, my family, and my own growth. I’m grateful to everyone who supported us throughout the years, and I ask for privacy, grace, and understanding as we navigate this transition with our family.”
