Kansas has been forced to withdraw from the Big 12 Tournament after a player tested positive for COVID-19.
The Kansas basketball team, known as The Jayhawks, was set to compete against the Texas Longhorns Friday night in the league’s semifinals. While the Kansas player remains unidentified, sources claim that it was someone who played in the Thursday night game against Oklahoma. Only seven Jayhawks players participated in Thursday’s game due to other COVID-19 issues on the team. Starting center David McCormack and reserve Tristan Enaruna were barred from playing in the tournament due to coronavirus health concerns.
The Kansas Jayhawks dropping out of the competition means that the Texas Longhorns will advance to play against the Oklahoma State and Baylor game’s winner in the Big 12 championship game on Saturday.
Kansas head coach Bill Self expressed disappointment in not being able to compete in the tournament.
“We have followed the daily testing and additional protocols that have been set up for us. Unfortunately, we caught a bad break at the wrong time. I look forward to preparing my team in probably a unique way for next week’s NCAA Tournament.”
