It’s so cold in the D! The Mavs and Odom spent their Easter drafting walking papers that will free Odom to be able to leave the team immediately without actually being “released”. This agreement allows the Mavericks to list Odom on their roster as inactive for the remainder of the season without actually releasing him, leaving the option of a trade after the season. Any team that wants Odom before then will have to buy him out by June 29th for a cool 2.4Million, otherwise they’ll be responsible for the full $8.2 million that Odom is scheduled to earn in the 2012-13 season.
This whole debacle stems from Odom’s missed games due to family illness and injuries. Did I mention that this agreement takes place immediately? Like, as in, as of yesterday Lam Lam is no longer playing with the Dallas team. He’s no longer playing with ANY team, not even the D-League that the Mavs were originally going to shift him to last month as an option to help earn his way back on to the squad. This is a tough break!
