Keke Palmer Hit With Awkward Marriage Proposal During SXSW Panel [Video]

A South by Southwest panel took an unexpected turn when a fan decided to shoot his shot with Keke Palmer right in the middle of the conversation.

The Hustlers actress was seated onstage March 13 alongside her “I Love Boosters” costars Demi Moore, Naomi Ackie, and Eiza Gonzalez when a man approached the stage, dropped to one knee, and asked her to marry him. Instead of panicking, Palmer stayed calm and handled the moment with honesty.

“I can’t marry you,” Keke responded in a video. “I don’t know you. I’m so sorry. I’m so sorry, sir.”

The audience could be heard laughing, but Palmer quickly realized the situation might not be a joke.

“Is this a prank?” she asked, clearly surprised as the man remained kneeling at the stage holding a ring.

Her castmates appeared stunned while the awkward moment unfolded. Security and event staff soon stepped in and escorted the man out of the venue, but not before he shouted that Palmer actually wanted to say yes to his proposal.

Once the situation had settled, Palmer addressed the room and tried to bring the energy back down.

“Sorry guys, let’s just take a deep breath,” she said. “Much love to you, brother.”

Then she added, “We’re back.”
