Kendrick Lamar is speaking candidly on his latest album, “Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers.”
Kendrick has never been the one to shy away from vulnerability. So, of course, it wasn’t shocking when he revealed some personal moments throughout his career in the new album. Through the 19 tracks, Kendrick speaks about fatherhood, addiction, infidelity, and more.
However, one topic that stood out to fans was his “lust addiction” and infidelity. In one song in particular, ‘Worldwide Steppers,’ K. Dot yea mentions his sexual relationship with a white woman.
“The first time I f**ked a white bi**h, I was sixteen at the Palisades, fumblin’ my grades,” he raps. “Next time I f*cked a white bi**h, was out in Copenhagen / Good Kid, M.A.A.D City tour, I flourished on them stages.”
In another song, ‘Mother I Sober,’ Kendrick expands on his addiction and cheating on his longtime romantic partner Whitney Alford.
“Intoxicated, there’s a lustful nature that I failed to mention / Insecurities that I project, sleepin’ with other women / Whitney’s hurt, the pure soul I know, I found her in the kitchen / Askin’ God, ‘Where did I lose myself? And can it be forgiven?’” Kendrick rapped.
Later in the track, Kendrick dives deeper into his infidelity and how Alford tried to get him help.
“Broke me down, she looked me in my eyes, ‘Is there an addiction?’/I said ‘No,’ but this time I lied, I knew that I can’t fix it/Pure soul, even in her pain, know she cared for me/Gave me a number, said she recommended some therapy,” he adds.
The song ends with Alford and their daughter giving a short spoken-word interlude.
“You did it. I’m proud of you. You broke a generational curse. Say, ‘Thank you, dad,’” Alford says before their daughter adds, “Thank you, daddy. Thank you, mommy. Thank you, brother… Mr. Morale.”
