The Atlanta music vault just opened up, and it turns out some of our favorite Real Housewives of Atlanta stars have history that goes way deeper than reality TV.
During a recent visit to V 103 with Big Tigger, Keri Hilson dropped a major bombshell about her early days in the industry, revealing that she used to be in a girl group with RHOA favorite Shamea Morton Mwangi. Even wilder? Porsha Williams auditioned for the group too, proving that holding a peach isn’t the only thing these ladies have in common, they both had musical ambitions early on.
While reflecting on her journey before breaking out as a solo superstar, Keri explained how Shamea ended up joining her project back in the day, though the pairing was brief. Keri shared, “We used to be in a group and her participation was kind of short lived because she was the last one added. We had been performing for I don’t know maybe a year or two as we were like The Rainbow Coalition. We were called Anthony Dent’s Group called Pretty Tony. So it was me, a Filipina, a Latina I mean sorry Filipina and a Latino girl who is our rapper. And then we had auditions to add another vocalist. She came in. We performed I don’t know how long but I think it was a pretty short time before we ended up disbanding. I think it was kind of short lived but we always stayed in touch.”
Even though the group, Pretty Tony, ultimately parted ways, Keri has nothing but love and respect for Shamea’s journey. Seeing her former groupmate thrive on RHOA and in her career as an Atlanta Hawks court coordinator brings Keri nothing but joy, especially because Shamea hasn’t changed a bit since their teenage years.
Keri gushed, “I love me some Shamea. She’s been a star. Like I’m so happy seeing her success now because she’s been this way actually. She’s the same level of energetic that she always was. She’s been a fool. She’s like the class clown girl. Like she’s hilarious. Her doing the Hawks thing like being a commentator, it’s all up her alley. Now seeing her new level of fame and her taking her own on that show, it is so her. I’m super proud of her success.”
Knowing that both Shamea and Porsha were running in the same musical circles as Miss Keri Baby makes you look at those old RHOA seasons in a whole new light.
