After 11 seasons in the NFL, Nnamdi Asomugha is officially hanging it up. According to the Oakland Raiders, the 32 year old signed a one day contract with the team so he could retire where his career began. Oakland drafted him 31st overall in 2003, and he spent his first eight seasons there.
Asomugha made three Pro Bowls and was a two time first team All Pro. He signed with San Francisco in the offseason but was released last month. In his retirement announcement he said, “I’m just grateful to be back, grateful for everything to go full circle.” He added that retiring as a Raider ranks highest among all his achievements and awards.
The retirement also sparked some chatter about his marriage. Bossip passed along an unconfirmed report that cited an unnamed source claiming the couple had been dealing with tension over his wife’s busy work schedule. The source reportedly said the actress has been juggling her TV show, business projects and charity work.
Neither of them has commented on the report, and nothing about it has been confirmed. Treat it as gossip until the couple says otherwise. For now, the story that is confirmed is a very good career with a very nice sendoff.
