Keyshawn Johnson has been slapped with a lawsuit of over $2 million for breaking the lease on one of his Panera Bread franchise stores.
According to court documents obtained by the @Blast, filed by property owners WVS SPEC LLC, the former NFL player turned business owner, alongside his company, First Picks Bread Company, leased the property back in 2012.
The owners say Johnson signed a 10-year lease and agreed to pay more than $22,000 per month in rent, but more than halfway through, he stopped paying. According to the suit, Johnson’s rent payments stopped completely as of January 1, 2018, but he also failed to pay his share of maintenance and repair of the shopping center the store was in.
As a result, the owners are demanding $2,350,000 in damages for the breaking the lease, in addition to another $400,000 for “breach of guaranty,” the publication reports. However, this is not Johnson’s first lawsuit over his Panera Bread business.
In fact, according to The Blast, Johnson is facing another lawsuit for finessing his business partner out of a huge payout after he agreed to buy out his part of the Panera ownership and failed to cough up the cash. In that suit, Johnson is facing $117,008.34 plus an additional $7,466 in interest.
