Kim Kardashian is opening up about the high stakes of her legal battle with Ray J, claiming his public attacks are a direct threat to her future as an attorney.
In a recently filed court declaration, the reality star expressed fear that Ray J’s claims of criminal “racketeering” could sabotage her mandatory moral character evaluation with the California State Bar. According to the filing, Kim is worried that these baseless narratives will force her to defend herself against imaginary crimes during the final steps of her law journey.
The feud reached a boiling point after Ray J spent much of 2025 accusing the Kardashian-Jenner family of illegal activity. In May, he publicly suggested that racketeering charges against the family would be appropriate. By later that year, he doubled down during a livestream, announcing that the federal RICO case he was about to drop on Kris and Kim would be crazy. He even went as far as telling his audience that “the feds is coming” and suggested the situation was worse than the criminal charges facing music mogul Diddy at the time.
Kim’s legal team emphasized that these claims are entirely fabricated, noting she has never been charged, indicted, or even contacted by a government agency regarding any criminal activity. She pointed out the absurdity of the situation, mentioning that her brief relationship with Ray J ended twenty years ago.
Beyond the courtroom, Kim shared the emotional toll this has taken on her home life. The mother of four revealed she had to have tough conversations with her kids about the lies he repeatedly told about her and the family. For Kim, seeing her children exposed to “federal investigation” rumors created a level of distress that goes beyond business.
The California State Bar is notoriously strict about its “Character and Fitness” review. Even if claims are unproven, any allegation of racketeering or dishonesty can trigger an intensive investigation that could delay or block an applicant. Kim, who has spent years advocating for prison reform and studying the law, believes Ray J is intentionally trying to ruin her reputation for his own gain. She stated that the singer has been building a brand out of trying to tear her down, using her name to stay relevant.
Ray J hasn’t backed down, however. After Kim and Kris Jenner filed their defamation suit, he fired back with a countersuit. He claims the family breached a previous settlement by talking about their old sex tape on their Hulu series. As both sides dig in, Kim remains focused on clearing her name so she can finally follow in her father’s footsteps.
