Kim Porter’s Family Reflects On Her Life And Shares Diddy’s Grief: “My Baby Is Gone”

WTVM in Columbus, Georgia had an opportunity to sit down with Kim Porter’s grandmother, aunt and aunt in law to discuss the superstar’s upbringing and the effects her untimely passing has had on the family. Porter, mother to 3 of music mogul Diddy’s children, unexpectedly passed away this week at 47 years old.

She was described by many in her hometown as the Columbus princess who made a name for herself as an actress and model from the south; with her face on the cover of products like Creme of Nature and Clairol and even gracing the cover of Jet Magazine.

Her aunt Carolyn Ross said, “She went to modeling school here in Columbus and they would travel to Hilton Head and she won quite a few contests there. She won the ‘Model of the South there.”

She said that title was Kim’s big break. Shortly after graduating from Columbus High School in 1988, Porter moved to Atlanta to pursue her modeling career, and then off to New York to become a rising runway model where she met her famous ex, Sean “Diddy” Combs. The two were together for a number of years and beared 3 children together, twin girls Jessie and D’Lila and son Christian. Porter’s oldest child, Quincy Brown, is fathered by R&B legend Al B. Sure.

Porter’s grandmother, Lila Mae Star, said she spoke to her granddaughter the day before she passed away. “She told me she felt better and that the doctor had been to her house and he gave her an antibiotic,” she recalled.

The next day, she said was heart breaking for the entire family to learn about her death, especially via social media. She got a chance to speak with Diddy over the phone, and she said he wasn’t doing too well with the news. He said, “My baby is gone, my baby is gone.”

Continued prayers and condolences to both the Combs and Porter families ??
