King Charles III has been dealt a devastating blow to his health.

On Monday, Buckingham Palace issued a somber announcement, revealing that King Charles III has been diagnosed with cancer. He was recently hospitalized for benign prostate enlargement following a string of unspecified symptoms, which is how medical professionals learned that he had cancer. The Palace did not share what stage the disease was, but this latest news follows a string of grim health updates coming out of Buckingham. Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, recently underwent unspecified abdominal surgery, which sparked a wave of chatter about her well-being.

In light of his diagnosis, King Charles has begun treatments, though it’s unclear what type he is undergoing. However, what is known is that he will be refraining from public appearances for the time being. Charles will continue to oversee State matters and any official documents. This development arrives barely a year after Charles became King last May during his coronation after his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, passed away at the age of 96 in September 2022 after an illustrious 70-year reign.

The statement from the Palace noted that Charles “remains wholly positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible.” The King has decided to disclose his diagnosis in order to be a beacon of hope for others battling the illness.
