Donald Trump revealed that several Black icons, including Kobe Bryant, will be immortalized with a statue in the National Garden of American Heroes.

This tribute will place Bryant alongside historic figures from various fields, including civil rights leaders and sports greats such as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Muhammad Ali.

The National Garden, established by Trump in 2020, is a space dedicated to recognizing America’s most influential figures. Located on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., it features statues, busts, and plaques celebrating those who have profoundly shaped the nation.

Bryant’s selection for this honor acknowledges his significant impact beyond basketball. With five NBA championships, two Olympic gold medals, and numerous accolades, his legacy as an athlete is unparalleled. However, it’s his influence off the court that truly cements his place as a national hero. His “Mamba Mentality” inspired countless individuals, teaching perseverance, discipline, and excellence.

Bryant’s advocacy for women’s sports, including his mentorship of his daughter Gigi, showcases his dedication to empowering the next generation. He also became a prominent voice for social change, addressing racial inequality and amplifying underrepresented voices.

Rosa Parks and Frederick Douglass are also among those being honored. It’s unknown when these figures will be constructed.
