The jersey that the late Kobe Bryant wore during the 2008 NBA finals against the Boston Celtics is on display at the Smithsonian Museum of African American History and Culture.
The jersey is being displayed on the third floor of the museum as part of the Sports: Level the Playing Field gallery.
The Kobe and Vanessa Bryant Family Foundation donated at least $1 million for the museum’s construction along with some of Bryant’s memorabilia – a Los Angeles Lakers uniform and a pair of shoes he wore during the 2008 NBA finals.
“Kobe’s contributions on and off the court are remarkable,” museum interim director Spencer Crew declared in a statement. “As a founding donor, he understood the significance of this museum to the nation and the world.”
In January, Bryant died along with his 13-year-old daughter Gianna Bryant and seven others in a helicopter crash.
Bryant did not win the 2008 NBA finals game, but he did win MVP.
