Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem is making headlines, not for policy or reform, but for her choice of words. After a federal lawsuit targeting her department was voluntarily dropped, Noem hopped on social media with a fiery “suck it” aimed at her critics.

Here’s the backstory: Ten immigration detainees filed a lawsuit back in March claiming their due process rights were violated. They were fighting against the Trump administration’s plan to send them to Guantanamo Bay—a U.S. military prison typically used for terrorism suspects, not immigration cases.

Civil rights groups like the ACLU raised major red flags, saying the transfer would be legally shaky and morally outrageous. The plaintiffs feared being detained in a high-security military facility without proper legal channels.

But by Thursday, most of the detainees had already been deported. The few who remained decided not to push forward, and the court dismissed the case, calling it a moot point.

That’s when Noem decided to celebrate with a two-word victory lap online. Critics called her post unprofessional and inflammatory, while supporters saw it as a power move.

One key figure in the case, Maiker Espinoza Escalona, was accused by DHS of being part of Venezuela’s Tren de Aragua gang and tied to serious crimes. His inclusion in the case stirred further debate on the intersection of criminal accusations and immigration enforcement.

Though the lawsuit didn’t get its day in court, the controversy around using Guantanamo for immigration continues to stir strong reactions on all sides. But one thing’s for sure—Noem’s response has people talking.
