Lizzo Turned Nicki Minaj's Fat-Shaming Tweet Into The Best Promo Of Her Career

Lizzo wasted no time making her album drop a cultural moment. Hours after “B*tch” hit streaming platforms today, the Grammy winner took to X to post what appears to be a direct response to Nicki Minaj’s February attack, this time in the form of a full diss track.

The song opens with a cutting inversion of the insult Minaj lobbed at her earlier this year. Minaj had written on X in February: “Fat Lizzo lost 300 lbs just to sell 300 albums. So now she has loose skin AND a flop album, AND a weird charge. Sheesh.”

On the track, Lizzo reclaims that exact framing, turning the weight loss mockery into a declaration of agency rather than a wound. The song is a winding meditation on the full arc of the feud. Lizzo acknowledges having once been a fan of Minaj before their falling out, and expresses a genuine desire to see Black women support each other rather than tear each other down. She pointedly calls out how their public conflict benefits the algorithm and media ecosystems that profit from Black women fighting, while other people quietly benefit from the distraction.

“Used to be the biggest fan, then i lost weight. Wait, wait, let me fixate. I could clear the air or light a fire like Blade. Pop b***h, which up the rhythm like i’m six eight paid to keep the peace, I don’t even like beef. Crazy thing is, if you knew me, you would like me,” she rapped.

There’s a deeply personal section where Lizzo references the lawsuit that Minaj’s “weird charge” line alluded to. Three of Lizzo’s former backup dancers had filed a civil suit alleging a toxic work environment, though a judge dismissed the fat-shaming claims in December 2025. On the track, Lizzo describes fantasizing about a trial that would expose what she calls a plot against her, but acknowledges that even full vindication can’t undo reputational damage already done.

The track also connects to the broader album themes. Lizzo has described “B*tch” as being about reclaiming her identity, saying “a lot of my identity has been manipulated by people outside of me, so this album is me taking that back.” The diss track is perhaps the most literal expression of that, she addresses being called out of her name, having her character questioned, and choosing love over bitterness anyway, closing with a note of defiant grace toward her detractors.

She also raps candidly about exhaustion, the grind of an album rollout, sleepless nights, and the emotional toll of public attacks, while insisting that none of it has broken her. A reference to once sleeping in her car grounds the song in the come-up narrative that has always defined her public image.

The Nicki Minaj feud had been simmering since early 2026. Minaj’s initial post came after Lizzo took to social media just before the Grammy Awards to comment on the Epstein files, and Minaj appeared to use that as a launching pad for personal attacks. Lizzo’s initial public response was notably measured, she told fans on TikTok that “celebrities’ opinions of other celebrities does not matter,” but it seems she saved her real answer for the studio.
