Brooklyn Nets star Kyrie Irving will be coming back to the basketball court at home as a New York City vaccine mandate is currently being amended.
Complex Media reports New York City has removed its private sector vaccine mandate, which will enable Irving, who is unvaccinated, to be able to play in the Barclays Center. New York Mayor Eric Adams has reportedly been working with health officials on changing the mandate, ESPN reports.
If all goes through, unvaccinated players for the New York Yankees and the Mets will be able to play homes games by Opening Day next month. This would be the first time Irving has stepped on the court at home since his decision to remain unvaxxed.
The Brooklyn Nets suffered a $50,000 fine from the NBA earlier this month for “violating New York City law and league health and safety protocols” after it let Irving go into the team’s locker room following their game against the Knicks.
