A child support disagreement between Los Angeles Lakers guard Steve Nash and his former wife, Alejandra, was making headlines in late April 2013. TMZ reported that the two were in a legal fight over support for their three children.
According to TMZ, an Arizona judge handled the divorce and ruled that Alejandra was not entitled to child support. She was appealing that decision. Nash’s argument, as TMZ described it, was that she does not need the money because the divorce settlement left her wealthy and she earns more than $30,000 a month.
Alejandra’s side, per the same report, is that Nash earns far more than she does and should use part of that income for the benefit of their children. TMZ also reported that Nash said he already covers 90 percent of medical, school and extracurricular costs, plus 82 percent of the nanny’s $2,000 monthly salary, and that he was concerned about excessive spending.
TMZ added that Alejandra wanted to move to Los Angeles, which Nash was objecting to, and noted that California support rules could change the numbers. Nash had previously said he chose the Lakers so he could be closer to his kids.
Nash had not publicly commented beyond what was in the court filings TMZ cited. It is a complicated family situation with two very different views on what is fair. What do you think? Read the original report from TMZ.
