Los Angeles Police Department officers in Pacoima County rescued a pilot from a crashed plane just moments before a train slammed straight into the aircraft Sunday afternoon.

Around 2 pm, the plane crashed onto the train tracks at San Fernando and Osborne streets, said LAPD officer Antonio Delatarro. The aircraft was reported as a single-engine Cessna.

According to Delatarro, LAPD’s Foothill Division officers pulled an injured man from the cock pit shortly after. The man was said to be in his 70s.

The body camera footage shared by LAPD shows two officers pulling the bloodied pilot to safety just moments before the Metrolink collided with the aircraft.

“Go go go!” one of the officers shouted while running away.

According to a tweet posted by LAPD Valley Bureau, the plane crashed after losing power.

The pilot was the only one on board and was taken to a hospital. He was in stable condition as of 8 pm, authorities said. No other injuries were reported

“Foothill Division Officers displayed heroism and quick action by saving the life of a pilot who made an emergency landing on the railroad tracks at San Fernando Rd. and Osborne St., just before an oncoming train collided with the aircraft,” the LAPD account tweeted.

Officials said the Metrolink train service was halted, and road traffic was detoured in the area about 20 miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles.

The National Transportation Safety Board and the FAA will further investigate the accident.
