Las Vegas Man Indicted for Attempted Murder After Courthouse Attack on Judge

Deobra Redden

A man who tried to attack a Nevada judge during a sentencing hearing in Las Vegas last month has been indicted for attempted murder.

According to reports, Deobra Redden, 30, has been indicted on nine counts, including attempted murder.  His arraignment is scheduled for Feb. 29.

During a sentencing hearing for an attempted battery case on Jan. 3, Redden was captured on video leaping over a bench to attack Clark County District Court Judge Mary Kay Holthus.

A week after the attack, Redden received a maximum four-year prison sentence for a battery charge he had pleaded guilty to in November.

Now, Redden faces a new indictment for attempted murder, accusing him of attacking Judge Holthus by grabbing her, pulling her hair, placing hands around her throat, and hitting her on the head.  Additionally, he is charged with assaulting a Las Vegas police officer.

Last month, Redden’s foster mother, Karen Springer, and older sister, LaDonna Daniels, revealed that he had been diagnosed with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, although court records show he was found competent to stand trial.
