The highly anticipated next chapter in the Friday franchise is officially moving forward.
Series creator Ice Cube and co-star Mike Epps confirmed that the fourth installment, titled Last Friday, is actively in development, bringing a long awaited resolution to years of fan speculation.
The duo shared the update during an appearance on Entertainment Tonight, offering the first concrete details regarding the production timeline and cast. Epps confirmed the project is officially moving forward, stating that the movie is “going down.”
A major point of discussion centered on whether Chris Tucker would reprise his iconic role as Smokey from the original 1995 film. Epps revealed that production is currently in active discussions with Tucker, noting that the actor wants to return to the franchise. Ice Cube expressed strong optimism regarding Tucker’s involvement, praising his talent and stating his belief that the reunion will happen.
While specific plot points remain heavily guarded, the project will center around the gentrification of a neighborhood. Production is scheduled to begin filming later this year, marking a massive breakthrough for a sequel that has faced a notoriously difficult development process.
Rumors regarding a fourth film have circulated for years with very little progress.
In 2024, Ice Cube publicly revealed that an entirely different script outline for a fourth movie had been rejected by New Line Cinema, causing a lengthy delay.
Momentum shifted earlier this year when Epps teased that the movie was finally getting made during an interview on The Breakfast Club. With filming on track for a late 2026 start, audiences may get an official first look at a trailer in the near future.
