The lawsuit centers on MD Steel Inc., a contractor that claims it handled labor for an at-home basketball court and additional renovations at Ball’s mansion, according to documents obtained by TMZ. The company says the full job came out to roughly $970,000, and while Ball allegedly paid about $750,000, MD Steel claims a remaining $221,928 balance never came through. Now, the contractor wants the court to make him pay.
The irony is not hard to see. LaVar built his public image on going big, talking bigger, and turning the Ball family name into a brand that lived above the rim. However, this dispute is not about a viral soundbite or a sideline moment. It is about a private basketball court, a six-figure bill, and a contractor alleging the math stopped mathing.
The work was tied to Ball’s 8-bedroom, 11-bathroom, 15,000-square-foot mansion. MD Steel’s filing claims it completed work tied to the basketball court and home renovations before the alleged unpaid balance became a legal issue. Ball has not issued a public response to the lawsuit.
The lawsuit also lands during a heavy personal stretch for Ball. Earlier this week, he revealed during N3on’s livestream that he and Tina Ball have separated after nearly 30 years of marriage. “You know, with my wife, Tina decided to go her own way. That’s why you don’t see her right here,” Ball said, according to People. He added, “We had our run. We had our run.”
That split follows a serious health battle. In a 2025 SLAM interview, Ball said, “I had an infection on my foot that started spreading through my blood due to not paying attention to my diabetes.” He also said, “I ended up having to get my leg amputated.” Months later, TMZ reported Ball showed off a prosthetic leg and told fans, “I’m walking now, baby.”
So, this is more than a celebrity renovation dispute. It is another pressure point in a year where Ball’s personal life, health recovery, and finances are all getting public attention at once.
For now, MD Steel is asking for $221,928. LaVar’s next move will decide whether this gets settled quietly or becomes another Big Baller headline with court paperwork attached.
