LaVar Ball is never short on confidence, and this time he is talking up his middle son. In comments to TMZ, LaVar said LiAngelo Ball would be the first player picked in the 2019 NBA Draft, ahead of Duke star Zion Williamson.
The comments come weeks after LaVar reportedly parted ways with his business manager, Alan, amid questions about missing Big Baller Brand money. We are only repeating what was reported at the time, and we have not seen a response from either side in this post.
Some quick background on LiAngelo. In 2017 he left UCLA after being suspended indefinitely following a shoplifting incident in China. He later signed a one year deal with the Lithuanian club Prienu Vytautas, playing alongside his younger brother LaMelo. After about four months overseas, LaVar pulled both sons from the deal. LiAngelo was not selected in the 2018 draft.
Still, LaVar told TMZ he expects big things this year and believes LiAngelo will land an NBA contract. He called his son the strongest two guard around and said no one in the class can compare. When TMZ asked about Zion, the projected top pick, LaVar said LiAngelo is stronger.
Those are LaVar’s opinions, and he has said bold things before. Draft night will tell the real story.
