A new lawsuit filed on behalf of two survivors of November’s deadly shooting at Oxford High School in Michigan accuses the school district and a number of its officials of ignoring red flags and not doing enough to prevent the gun violence that left four students dead.
The lawsuit alleges that the 15-year-old suspect Ethan Crumbley, who has been charged with the shooting, did things like bring live ammunition and a severed bird head to school and posted threats on social media before the shooting.
The lawsuit brought by the family of two sisters who survived the shooting was initially filed in a US District Court in Michigan in December. Still, it was later amended on January 7 to include the Oxford Community School District, its superintendent, the Oxford High School’s principal and dean of students, and other unnamed counselors, teachers, and a staffer.
“The horror of November 30, 2021, was entirely preventable,” the lawsuit stated.
The suit seeks more than $100 million for each of the two survivors, citing the need for medical and emotional treatment.
