Attorney Michael Avenatti says he has learned of a third tape connected to the investigation into R. Kelly, and that he is working to recover it and give it to law enforcement.
Last week, Avenatti said he turned over a different tape, separate from the one that surfaced in 2002, which he claims shows Kelly with an underage girl. Kelly has long denied allegations of abuse.
“Update: We have become aware of the existence of a third tape, that allegedly shows further acts of sexual abuse of an underage girl by R. Kelly,” Avenatti said in a statement, according to Newsweek. He said his team is working to recover the tape and has handled the matter on a pro bono basis.
Avenatti also claimed he has uncovered evidence about how Kelly was acquitted in his 2008 child pornography trial. “We have discovered substantial evidence that he and certain enablers engaged in systematic witness intimidation, evidence tampering, physical threats and payments to witnesses,” he said.
According to TMZ, Kelly’s lawyer, who was not involved in the original case, said the claims about the trial are baseless.
