LeBron James has weighed in on the ongoing lyrical battle between Drake and Kendrick Lamar.
Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, on Saturday, James expressed his excitement over the clash between the two music titans following the leak of Drake’s alleged diss track earlier that day. The four-time NBA champion praised the rivalry, tweeting, “Nothing like 2 heavyweights doing what they do best! For the love of the sport.”
A longtime friend of Drake’s, LeBron has also shown his appreciation for Kendrick Lamar’s work by posting videos of himself jamming to Lamar’s tracks. This musical face-off comes after Lamar took a swipe at both Drake and J. Cole in his verse on the track “Like That” from the album “We Don’t Trust You” by Metro Boomin and Future, released last month. In his lyrics, Lamar boldly states, “Think I won’t drop the location? I still got PTSD / Motherfuck the big three, nigga, it’s just big me.”
On April 13, the day the spotlight turned back to Drake when his track “Push Ups (Drop & Give Me Fifty)” surfaced online. The song features Drake throwing sharp lines at Lamar, Metro Boomin, The Weeknd, Rick Ross, and others, showcasing his lyrical prowess and asserting his dominance in the rap game with verses like, “I could never be nobody number-one fan / Your first number one, I had to put it in your hand / You pussies can’t get booked outside America for nan’ / I’m out in Tokyo because I’m big in Japan / I’m the hit maker y’all depend on / Backstage, in my city, it was friend zone / You won’t ever take no chain off of us.”
LeBron’s tweet highlights his role as a keen observer of the rap scene, celebrating the competitive spirit that drives both Drake and Kendrick Lamar to excel in their craft.
