LeBron James Says He’s Interested In Buying WNBA’s Atlanta Dream

LeBron James reportedly has his eyes on purchasing the WNBA‘s Atlanta Dream from Georgia Sen. Kelly Loeffler following her loss to Raphael Warnock.

Loeffler became co-owner of the Atlanta Dream alongside Atlanta businesswoman Mary Brock in 2011. Now, the Los Angeles Lakers star is thinking about buying the team. On Wednesday, James tweeted that he was interested in putting together an ownership group to purchase the WNBA. “Think I’m gone put together an ownership group for the The Dream.  Whose in? #BlackVotesMatter,” the NBA player wrote.

According to ESPN, Loeffler is not involved with the team’s day-to-day operations and left her seat on the WNBA board of governors in October 2019, Fox News reports.

Despite Loeffler’s absence, the WNBA has recently been fighting against racial injustice and speaking up in support of the Black Lives Matter movement, an act Loeffler has steered clear from. Instead, she’s voiced her disagreement with the league’s move to spotlight the Black Lives Matter movement.

“I adamantly oppose the Black Lives Matter political movement, which has advocated for the defunding of police, called for the removal of Jesus from churches and the disruption of the nuclear family structure, harbored anti-Semitic views, and promoted violence and destruction across the country,” she told USA Today back in July. “The statement ‘Black lives matter’ is very different than the organization Black Lives Matter,” she said. “I think we all agree the life of every African American is important.”

And it doesn’t seem like WNBA players would mind a new owner. In a tweet, Atlanta Dream player Elizabeth Williams advocated for Loeffler’s political competitor, Raphael Warnock. “We are WNBA players, but like the late, great John Lewis said, we are also ordinary people with extraordinary vision. ReverendWarnock has spent his life fighting for the people, and we need him in Washington. Join the movement for a better Georgia at http://Warnockforgeorgia.com.”
