Stephen Curry is no longer keeping Golden State’s LeBron James recruitment behind closed doors, and his public pitch is already turning one of the NBA’s biggest offseason rumors into a full blown spectacle.

During a Wednesday appearance on Good Morning America, Curry explained why he believes Golden State could offer LeBron James more than another contract or another season. Curry framed the opportunity around winning, lifestyle, familiarity, and the possibility of ending James’ career beside players who understand exactly what championship basketball requires.
“The Bay, we know how to win, it’s beautiful weather, great golf, and I know he’s into that,” Curry said when asked what his pitch would be to James.
Curry continued, “The USA experience that we had, the battles that we’ve had over the years, we just know how to play basketball and I think that he would enjoy just the idea of what it means to finish your career the right way.”
That last phrase is what gives the recruitment a deeper edge. Curry is not only promising James a competitive roster. He is presenting Golden State as the place where one of basketball’s most influential careers could receive a fitting final act.
The LeBron Warriors conversation also carries weight because Curry and James are not ordinary potential teammates. They faced each other in four consecutive NBA Finals from 2015 through 2018, with Golden State winning three of those championship series and Cleveland completing its historic comeback in 2016.
Their rivalry shaped an era, divided fan bases, fueled endless legacy debates, and produced some of the most memorable moments in modern NBA history. A decision to join forces would transform that history without erasing it. Instead of spending the final stage of their careers as familiar opponents, James and Curry could attempt to prove that their basketball connection is just as dangerous as their rivalry once was.
Their time together with Team USA offered a preview. Curry and James helped the United States defeat France for the men’s basketball gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Curry scored 24 points in the championship game, while James added 14.
That Olympic run matters because it removed some of the mystery surrounding their possible fit. Curry’s movement, shooting, and ability to stretch a defense complemented James’ passing and control of the floor. Their shared experience also gave both stars a chance to compete together without either player having to surrender what makes him effective.
Golden State’s recruitment is not coming from Curry alone. Draymond Green has also acknowledged making a personal pitch to James while the two spent time together.
Green discussed the conversation on “The Draymond Green Show” after spending time golfing with James.
“I’d be remiss if I don’t take the opportunity to throw my pitch in there… Of course I did that and of course the pitch was crazy. I think I’m pretty decent at it,” Green said.
Green also admitted that he does not know whether his message will ultimately influence James.
“Does it change anything? Does it make anything happen? I don’t know. I hope so. With the things that I shared in it, it’s definitely gonna make the brain work a little bit. I don’t think there’s a decision that’s been made, but say if there was, it’ll make you think twice about it.”
The public campaign shows how seriously Golden State is treating the LeBron Warriors possibility. Curry is selling basketball harmony and a peaceful final chapter. Green is handling the direct conversation. Together, they are appealing to the competitive and personal factors that could shape James’ next move.
Still, Golden State does not appear to be alone near the front of the line.
Shams Charania reported that Cleveland, Miami, and Philadelphia currently appear to form the leading group pursuing James. Charania described Golden State as one of the teams on the periphery after the Warriors initially imagined a roster built around James, Curry, and Green.
Each leading destination can offer its own narrative. Cleveland represents home and the franchise where James delivered the city’s first NBA championship. Miami represents a return to the organization where he won two titles and reached four straight Finals. Philadelphia could offer a new challenge with an established group attempting to compete immediately.
Golden State’s pitch is different. It is built around two legends deciding that their final memories do not have to be created on opposite sides of the court.
The basketball fit would still require sacrifice. Both James and Curry have spent most of their careers operating as the central force within their offenses. Golden State would also have to balance an experienced roster across a long season while preserving enough energy for a serious playoff run.
However, the partnership would create immediate pressure for opposing defenses. Curry’s shooting demands attention far beyond the three point line, while James has built his career around identifying and punishing defensive mistakes. Green would provide another playmaker who already understands Curry’s movement and has developed a strong personal relationship with James.
The LeBron Warriors possibility would also become one of the league’s biggest cultural events. Every road game would feel like an attraction. Every loss would become a debate. Every strong performance would restart the championship conversation. Golden State would not simply be adding a player. The franchise would be bringing together two faces of the same basketball generation.
James has earned the right to choose the meaning of his final chapter. He can return to a familiar city, pursue the strongest available roster, or select a destination based on family, comfort, and personal fulfillment. Curry’s message suggests that Golden State believes it can offer pieces of every category.
For years, James and Curry stood between each other and another championship. Now, Golden State is asking James to consider whether the most fitting conclusion is chasing one together.
