Lenny Kravitz Explains Why He Works Out in Leather Pants and Boots

Rock icon Lenny Kravitz recently addressed his viral TikTok video in which he’s seen lifting weights in an unusual gym outfit – black leather pants and sunglasses.

In an interview with Variety, published on April 30, Kravitz explained his unique workout attire. “I’m always working out in leather pants or jeans and boots and whatever — if I’m not doing cardio,” he said. He prefers to jump straight into his workout if he’s not doing cardio and doesn’t always have time to change into a workout fit.

The Grammy winner emphasized that he takes his training seriously, mentioning that he has trained alongside elite athletes across various sports, from the NFL to MLB.

“I know what I’m doing. And my trainer knows what he’s doing. And I know my body and what my body does and what it can do and how it feels and it’s all good,” he said, defending his approach to fitness and his choice of workout wear.

Recalling an incident where he surprised some athletes at the gym by outperforming them despite showing up in casual attire, Kravitz explained that his unconventional gym look isn’t for effect but simply a matter of practicality.

“I’m gonna pop in, I’ve got 45 minutes, we’re gonna hit it and I’m gonna go run to where I’m going. So I don’t do it for effect. I didn’t do that to be like, ‘Oh, let me be just so different and wear leather pants and glasses.’ No, it’s just me walking in off the street.”

Kravitz’s viral video, which he posted on April 9, shows him lifting weights in leather pants and sunglasses, captioned with a motivational message emphasizing gratitude and the importance of seizing the day. “Thank God for today! Grateful. Never been better. There are no shortcuts so seize your day. It is all possible. Love!”
