Donald Trump’s lies and misleading statements are not only affecting the United States, but they are now affecting the lives of several thousand Africans, who have been sold into slavery.

According to The Guardian, Libyan media is using Donald Trump’s “Fake News” tweets to challenge the report that Libya is hosting modern-day slave auctions. Over the weekend, the Celebrity-in-Chief launched an attack on CNN, saying, “CNN International is still a major source of (Fake) news, and they represent our Nation to the WORLD very poorly. The outside world does not see the truth from them.”

As a result, the Libyan media is hesitant to believe that the CNN video of the slave auctions is authentic, especially since Trump’s tweet came just days after CNN’s slave auction report surfaced. Although officials promised to investigate the allegations, they also said they are considering an investigation into CNN after Trump’s remarks.

Now, it appears Libyan authorities believe CNN is using the report to make the country look bad. However, despite the belief of Libyan officials, French president Emmanuel Macron is taking action to help free the migrants from the Libyan detention camps. According to reports, the French UN ambassador has suggested sanctions to stop the auctions, saying, “we cannot wait for…the political (track) to succeed, in order to act in a decisive way against human trafficking in Libya. There is no time to waste.” Although the French can give names for the sanctions, they will still need the security council’s 15-member Libya sanctions committee to agree in order to impose a global asset freeze and travel ban on the people involved.
