Pet parents juggling walks, feedings, and the low grade panic of a pet slipping out the front door just got a serious upgrade from Life360 pet tags, the company’s newest move to keep four legged family members safe and accounted for.
The family location and safety app rolled out a new $7.99 stainless steel QR code tag on Tuesday, built for pet owners who want a simple safety net without strapping a bulky GPS tracker to a collar. Anyone who finds a lost pet can scan the tag and immediately reach the owner, no app download required on their end.
That part matters more than it sounds. Per Life360’s official announcement, scanning the tag instantly notifies the pet’s family through their own Life360 app, sharing the pet’s last known location at the same time. So if the dog wriggles free from whoever found it and takes off again, the family already has a starting point instead of starting the search from zero.
Life360 CMO Mike Zeman framed the update around that peace of mind, saying the new features bring “additional value and delight to pet parents everywhere,” according to Life360’s announcement. The company says more than 8 million pets have already been added to family accounts since it moved into pet tech last year, building on the tracking network it gained through its 2021 acquisition of Tile.
The tag is just one piece of the rollout. Life360 also introduced a set of in-app care and connection tools designed for households where more than one person is responsible for keeping the pet fed, walked, and healthy. New care logs let family members schedule and track feeding times, walks, medication, and litter cleaning, with everyone on the account able to see what has already been handled and what still needs attention. For anyone who has ever double-fed a dog because two people assumed the other hadn’t done it yet, this closes that gap.
There is a lighter side too. Zoomies Alerts, built for Life360’s GPS trackers, notify owners when a pet has one of those sudden bursts of energy pets are known for, and a Weekly Roundup rounds up the week’s activity, including total distance walked and which family member logged the most care. It is a small but genuinely fun way for families to stay connected to a pet’s daily life, not just its whereabouts.
Life360 is also lowering the barrier to its GPS hardware. The Pet GPS trackers were previously locked behind the pricier Platinum and Gold subscription tiers. Now they are included with the $99 per year Silver bundle, opening advanced tracking features like geofencing and escape alerts to a much wider group of pet parents who were previously priced out.
For families who do not need full GPS tracking but still want a safety net, the $7.99 tag alone covers the basics, and owners can update their contact information anytime through the pet’s profile in the app. Both the new tags and GPS trackers are available now through Life360’s website and Amazon in the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom.
What Life360 is really selling here is coordination. Pet parenting rarely falls on one person, and the biggest risks- a missed feeding, an unlocked gate, a dog that bolts during a walk- usually come down to a breakdown in communication between the people responsible for the animal. By building shared visibility into something as simple as a $7.99 tag, Life360 is betting that keeping pets safe works a lot better as a family effort than a solo one.
