Lil Durk Won't Face Death Penalty in Murder-for-Hire Case Linked to Rap Feud

Lil Durk has secured a small but significant win in his ongoing murder-for-hire case.

The court has ruled that his rap lyrics cannot be used as evidence in the upcoming trial. This marks a blow to prosecutors, who initially used lyrics from “Wonderful Wayne & Jackie Boy” to justify Durk’s arrest, alleging they referenced the 2022 attack on Quando Rondo that led to his cousin’s death.

Despite this legal victory, the rapper has once again been denied bail due to violations of jail phone regulations. Prosecutors continue to accuse Durk of placing a bounty on Rondo as retaliation for the 2020 murder of King Von.

Durk’s legal team argued successfully that the song in question was written and released before the attack occurred. Meanwhile, his family has spoken out against the prosecution’s tactics.

“The government presented false evidence to a grand jury to indict him,” they said. “This isn’t justice. That’s a violation of the very system that’s supposed to protect all of us.”

They added, “Durk has always used music to tell stories, to express pain to heal, and yet those same lyrics are now being used against him. We refuse to stay silent as Black artists continue to be criminalized for their creativity. Rap is art.”

The family called for public solidarity and urged fans to “stand with us. Stand for truth. Stand for fairness. Stand for The Voice.”

Durk’s next court appearance is set for June 2nd. Kavon London Grant, Deandre Dontrell Wilson, Keith Jones, David Brian Lindsey, and Asa Houston have also been arrested for their roles in the plot. Each of the men faces life behind bars if convicted.
