Music legend Lionel Richie was the target of an attempted burglary at his Beverly Hills estate, but thanks to his security system, the suspect never made it inside.
According to TMZ, the Beverly Hills Police Department confirmed they received a call in the early hours of Friday, August 22nd, reporting a break-in attempt at Richie’s residence. The 75-year-old singer was home during the incident. Police say the alarm system activated, scaring off the intruder before anything could be stolen.
Authorities arrested 38-year-old Michael John Bond on suspicion of residential burglary. Bond’s arrest comes as Los Angeles continues to face a wave of high-profile break-ins involving celebrity homes.
Just months ago, Brad Pitt’s famous Los Feliz property, known as “The Steel House,” was burglarized while he was away. Four suspects were later arrested.
Law enforcement agencies have been increasingly vocal about what they call “burglary tourism,” in which organized theft groups target luxury homes in Southern California. In February, the FBI announced a national initiative to track and dismantle these groups, saying the effort is meant to protect both public figures and everyday citizens.
For Richie, who has spent decades as one of music’s most beloved voices, the attempted burglary serves as a reminder that no one is immune to the growing crime trend in Los Angeles.
