Los Angeles County prosecutors are challenging Tory Lanez‘s new motion due to his claims lacking “substance.”

On Thursday, attorneys Alexander Bott and Kathy Ta submitted a response to the Defendant’s Motion for a New Trial on behalf of the District Attorney’s office. The prosecutor’s stance is that the claim made by Lanez’s attorneys is “baseless” and that there are multiple grounds on which their client would not be eligible for a new trial.

To be eligible for a new trial, Lanez must demonstrate a “reversible error or other defect.” They further contended that Lanez’s arguments for a new trial are founded on facts that were not contested during the initial trial. Thereby negating the presence of any “defect.”

In addition, the prosecution argues that Lanez was not deprived of his Sixth Amendment right and none of the evidence was inappropriate. Furthermore, the evidence deemed “inappropriate” was not contested during the trial, thus rendering it “appropriate.”

In 2022, after an eight-day trial, a grand jury found Lanez guilty of shooting Megan Thee Stallion. Last month, Lanez’s legal team formally began their attempt to appeal his conviction. The team claimed that several factors had robbed him of a “fair trial.” The focus of the motion revolves around a statement Lanez’s made in 2020. In an Instagram post, Lanez asserted that Kelsey Harris, Megan’s former best friend and assistant, was not responsible for the shooting.
