A renewed attempt to solve one of the greatest mysteries in aviation history has come to a frustrating close as families mark 12 years since Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 vanished.
The Air Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) confirmed on Sunday that the most recent high-tech search of the southern Indian Ocean has “not yielded any findings that confirm the location of the aircraft wreckage.”
The latest mission, conducted by the marine robotics firm Ocean Infinity under a “no find, no fee” agreement, scoured approximately 7,571 square kilometers of the seabed between March 2025 and January 2026. Despite using advanced autonomous underwater drones capable of reaching depths of 6,000 meters, the search ended without a single clue to the whereabouts of the 239 people on board.
“The government pays nothing unless the aircraft is found,” stated Voice370, an association representing the victims’ families. The group is now urging the Malaysian government to grant a contract extension to Ocean Infinity “without hesitation” or to offer similar opportunities to other deep-sea exploration companies. While the current contract is set to expire in June 2026, Voice370 noted that “it appears unlikely [Ocean Infinity] will be able to return to complete the remaining areas due to the approaching winter months and deteriorating sea conditions.”
For the families, the search is far from over. In an emotional statement, Voice370 insisted they would “never give up” on finding their loved ones.
“We will continue the search for MH370, and we will continue the fight for answers,” the group declared. Relatives also paid tribute to the 239 passengers and crew, whose “absence continues to be felt every single day.”
While pieces of debris confirmed to be from MH370 have washed up on African and Indian Ocean shorelines over the years, the main fuselage and the crucial flight data recorders remain missing.
Twelve years have passed since the plane vanished, yet the determination of the victims’ relatives remains unshaken as they demand that the search continue until the mystery is finally solved.
