Last week “Malcolm & Marie” premiered on Netflix, and the reviews for the film have been mixed.
The movie examines a couple, played by John David Washington and Zendaya, who has just returned home from what should’ve been a triumphant and happy occasion for the pair. Instead, the evening unravels into a quarrel between the couple that exposes some painful feelings of insecurity, resentment, jealousy, and anger.
The film, written and directed by “Euphoria” creator Sam Levinson, was meant to spark a larger conversation on relationships. The one thing we can all agree on is that he was successful. The film made some viewers uncomfortable, and others sit up and notice the similarities in their own toxic relationships.
Many fans took to Twitter to explore the triggering levels of toxicity displayed by the couple, whether they liked the film or not.
