Local news outlets reported in April 2017 that a man showed up at the New York City workplace where Malia Obama was interning and proposed marriage.
According to those reports, the man, identified as Jair, a 30 year old from Brooklyn, went to a Tribeca building on April 10. He reportedly went to the fourth floor, held a sign up to an office window, and loudly proposed to the former First Daughter.
Reports say Secret Service agents recognized him as someone who had repeatedly tried to get into the White House in the past. They told him to leave the premises and to stay away from Malia, and he was let go with a warning.
The reports say that was not the end of it. Two days later he allegedly followed Malia as she left a building in the West Village where she also interned. The following day, Secret Service agents went to his home to speak with him. Five days after that interview, agents reportedly went to the First Precinct stationhouse in Manhattan and reported the matter to police.
According to the reports, he has no criminal record, and authorities had not decided whether to file stalking or harassment charges at the time. Malia was not reported hurt in any of the encounters.
