A Staten Island man named Brian has been charged over alleged social media threats against Democrats, protesters, law enforcement and elected officials, including New York Sen. Chuck Schumer, according to NBC News.
Prosecutors said members of the Joint Terrorism Task Force, including FBI agents and New York Police Department officers, arrested Brian, 54, early Tuesday at his home. Prosecutors said he was upset about the presidential election results and threatened to kill Democrats and to blow up the FBI.
He is charged in a federal complaint with threatening to kill, and urging others to kill, protesters, members of law enforcement and elected officials, according to papers filed in the Eastern District of New York. A Brooklyn federal court judge ordered him detained pending a bail hearing, prosecutors said.
Acting U.S. Attorney Seth Ducharme said his office “will not tolerate violence or threats of violence” aimed at intimidating others.
The charges are allegations, and a response from Brian was not included in the reports we reviewed.
