James Otis, the man who smashed Donald Trump’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, will not serve jail time.
Otis was charged with felony vandalism after the October 2016 incident, in which he took a sledgehammer to the star. According to TMZ and court reports, he accepted a plea deal that includes 3 years of probation and 20 days of CalTrans work. In exchange, he avoids any time behind bars.
He will still have to pay. Otis was ordered to pay $3,700 to the Hollywood Historic Trust and $700 to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, which adds up to the $4,400 reported to cover the cost of repairing the star.
